The Cincinnati Bengals have signed veteran quarterback Anthony Wright as an insurance policy to starting quarterback Carson Palmer. Palmer is recovering from knee injury, and the Bengals have yet to determine whether or not he will be ready by the start of the season. If Palmer wasn't ready, the team would have liked to have turned to Jon Kitna. Unfortunately, Kitna signed with the Detroit Lions a few weeks ago.
Wright has spent the past several seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. If you remember, Wright was actually the quarterback who led the Ravens to their mosr recent playoff appearance. Wright also started seven games last season after QB Kyle Boller suffered a toe injury. In his career, Wright has thrown for 20 touchdowns and 25 interceptions, and is fairly mobile.
In all liklihood, Palmer will be ready for the Bengals first regular season game in September 10th against the Kansas City Chiefs. In case he is not ready though, Wright would likely get the start at the moment.
