Time to change your mock drafts.
The Miami Dolphins became another team to announce and sign the first overall pick of the draft prior to draft day. Bill Parcells will have Michigan tackle Jake Long suiting up for the team next season after the team signed him to a five-year deal worth $57.75 million, with $30 million guaranteed.
"My understanding is St. Louis is on the clock," said Longs agent, Tom Condon.
Unlike last year's holdout that the Oakland Raiders had with first overall pick JaMarcus Russell, it'll be the Rams that are the team awaiting to sign the second pick in the draft. Could that pick be defensive end Chris Long, whom many felt the Dolphins would draft originally?
"Im real glad we got the contract done so I dont have to worry about any of that," Long said.
Long is now the highest-paid lineman in the NFL, despite the fact that Joe Thomas, taken with the third overall pick last season by the Cleveland Browns, has been scouted as being better than Long.
