With the 3rd pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons selected quarterback Matt Ryan from Boston College. The Falcons couldn't afford to sit back and wait on Michael Vick to come back in several years, but on the same note they probably could've gotten just as good enough of a quarterback with the third pick in the second round as they did with the third pick overall.
Ryan has good size and a big frame, and is smart enough to understand a gameplan and read the defense. He'll be a good leader at the quarterback position, and will certainly bring more stability than last season. His weaknesses include throwing too many interceptions, meaning he'll have to work on his accuracy in training camp.
I thought the Falcons were going to take Glenn Dorsey, because I felt Peter King was right when he said new Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff was a "very big fan" of Dorsey (remember, Dimitroff came from the Patriots, where the likes of Ty Warren, Richard Seymour, and Vince Wilfork were selected). Dorsey battled injuries last season, but through that he never missed a game and was dubbed by many as the best defensive lineman in the country.
