Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers received bad news when they learned that their star wide receiver, Javon Walker, would miss the rest of the season after tearing his knee against the Detroit Lions.
Walker will need to have an operation to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament. He will need eight to 12 months months of rehabilitating, which could lead into next season.
"Talking to him last night, he's very positive and upbeat about it, understands what's ahead of him and is planning on breaking all kinds of records on getting back sooner," said Packers head coach Mike Sherman.
Walker was hurt after it appeared he had made an outstanding 55-yard catch during the third quarter. The play was called off since Walker pushed off the defende though.
Last year, Walker made the Pro Bowl while catching 89 passes for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Robert Ferguson and Donald Driver will now be the starters for Favre. Favre has had a good history with Driver. Antonio Chatman will be the third receiver, and rookie Terrence Murphy will be the fourth man.
It is not known if the Packers will sign a free-agent wide receiver or trade for one.
