San Diego Chargers' tight end Antonio Gates has signed a new contract with the team, which he has been requesting for awhile now. Gates had been holding out, forcing the Chargers to suspend him for three games - including the team's opener.
Gates signed a six-year deal, and he is expected to receive around $5 million per year. The Chargers had been hesitant on giving him a large contract right away since he has only had one great season.
Gates stated that the reason he missed the deadline before being suspended for three games was due to flight problems. It's not known if the team will take his reasoning into consideration in terms of reducing the suspension.
