During the opening week of the 2008-2009 regular season, NFL fans are going to be treated with a Super Bowl re-match and several division rivalries in prime time. Although the full schedule will be released in a couple of days, the league announced the four games that will highlight the opening week.
The season will kick off on a Thursday night opener again when the Washington Redskins travel to New York to take on the Giants. The game will have a 7:00 p.m. EST start time, which is earlier than usual due to it being the final night of the Republican Convention.
The first Sunday night football game of the year will feature the Indianapolis Colts hosting the Chicago Bears in the brand new Lucas Oil Stadium.
Then, on Monday Night, ESPN will again feature a doubleheader for Week 1. The Minnesota Vikings will head to Lambeau to take on the Favre-less Green Bay Packers at 7:00 p.m. EST. Then at 10:15 p.m., the second game will feature the Denver Broncos heading to the Black Hole to take on the Oakland Raiders.
On the opening week, eight teams are featured. Four of them made the postseason last year, one of them missed with a .500 record, and the other three were below .500. What do you think about the opening week prime time games? Let us know!
