With the 6th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected defensive end Vernon Gholston from Ohio State. Gholston brings an immediate pass rushing ability to the Jets, who have lacked a solid presence on the end for awhile.
Gholston had 14 sacks last year at Ohio State and saw his stock rise consistently over the past few weeks. If the Dolphins had taken Chris Long at No. 1 overall, the Rams may have taken Gholston second. Gholston is a terrific athlete, but he does have some questionable instincts still. He has a lot of experience dropping back into coverage in college, which may eventually lead to him becoming a linebacker if the right situation arises in New York.
