With the 28th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected defensive end Lawrence Jackson from USC. While Jackson isn't the prototypical player that fans will get excited about, he'll fill a need for the Seahawks after losing Chuck Darby and Ellis Wyms in the offseason. Jackson's chances of stepping in and starting immediately for the Seahawks would be high, but whether or not he'd be effective is the big question.
The Seahawks were in a position where if they passed on picking for the sake of filling a need, they could've go in a variety of directions. One quiet alternative you'd have to like is taking Brian Brohm, and letting him sit behind Matt Hasselbeck for several years, alas Aaron Rodgers behind Brett Favre in Green Bay.
