The New York Jets signed veteran tight end Bubba Franks to a one-year deal on Monday, hoping to bring in another viable receiver at the position behind starter Chris Baker.
Franks, who is 30 years old, has battled injuries the past several years, causing his production to slip significantly. He was the 14th overall pick of the 2000 draft by the Green Bay Packers, and was voted to three Pro Bowls between 2001 and 2003. However, his production slip caused him to lose his starting role to Donald Lee last season.
Last season, Franks recorded 18 catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns in just eight games. Franks also remains an asset as a blocker though, and should help out the Jets in that regard.
