With the nineteenth pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans selected safety Michael Griffin. The move comes as a surprise, considering that the Titans wanted a wide receiver for Vince Young to throw to. Since Ted Ginn Jr. was already drafted, that may have changed the Titans direction.
Griffin, from the Texas Longhorns, has been a solid strong safety for two years now. He is very intelligent and is quick to read and react to what the opposition is doing.
Griffin has decent size and athleticism for his position. His range is adequate, and he can backpedal in coverage smoothly. He is aggressive in coming up to help with the run and can make all of the tackles in the open field. His only issues are that he lacks great size and durability.
