With the postseason drawing near, teams have to kick it into another gear if they want to make the postseason. While teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins can't do anything to help themselves after season ending injuries to clutch players, other teams can. The Kansas City Chiefs are determined to make the postseason after the long-awaited return of Trent Green, and even the Pittsburgh Steelers believe that playing in January is still possible. These rankings were made on November 22nd, 2006, right before Week 12. These rankings take into account the momentum teams had from last week, as well as their expectations heading into the season.

Rank Team Comment
(1) - Despite losing their first game, the Colts can benefit by working on the areas they know Dallas was able to exploit. Besides, now we won't have to here the media asking them every second about a possible undefeated season.
(2) - In the playoffs, teams have been able to stop Peyton Manning from throwing effectively. Let's see a team try and stop LaDainian Tomlinson - it may not be possible.
(3) - With the New York Giants and the Seattle Seahawks starting to collapse, the Bears can clinch a playoff spot any day now, and they deserve credit for beating both New York teams in the same stadium.
(4) - When it comes to powerhouse offensive teams, the Broncos defense has failed in getting it done against the Colts and the Chargers. A "good" defense doesn't give up that big of a lead to anyone.
(5) - After two losses in a row, the Patriots pitched perhaps their most dominating performance of the season - a 35-0 stomping to the Green Bay Packers. Maybe they should lose two in a row more often (kidding).
(7) - The last thing that opposing teams want now is for Jamal Lewis to get his game back: three touchdowns in one sitting sounds like the Lewis of old.
(6) - The Giants have not responded the past two weeks with injuries to Michael Strahan and Amani Toomer. Although they have a 3-0 division lead, that won't matter if Dallas finishes with a better record.
(10) - Since the switch to Tony Romo, the Cowboys have been the class of the NFC East. Romo is doing what he needs to win, and Dallas deserves major props for handing the Colts their first loss of the season.
(8) - Although Drew Brees threw for over 500 yards, his turnovers cost the Saints early. They have suddenly slipped to the wildcard now, and the last thing they need is to start slumping at crunch time.
(12) - The Panthers are sitting comfortably with the division lead after a bumpy season. A defensive shutout is a big boost to the Panthers defense, which can allow the offense to take more risks in the future.
(15) - Just when you think the Jaguars are down for the count, they pop right back up and deliver a solid performance. The way that shut down the Giants running game was simply amazing.
(13) - The past two weeks, Chad Johnson and Carson Palmer have combined for efforts that teams would dream about in half a season's span.
(18) - It may not have been pretty throughout, but a late win in a very competitive win may have been better for Trent Green's return than a blowout. Now, he'll be ready for close situations.
(17) - The Steelers needed to win out to stay alive, and so far, they've won two straight. They can't do this again...can they?
(11) - Although the Seahawks lead their division, have Shaun Alexander back, and will have Matt Hasselbeck back this week, their division lead over the 49ers is one game.
(16) - The Jets' offense blew their opportunities against the Bears, but their defensive efforts have to be a positive sign.
(20) - Instead of Sean Payton for coach of the year, maybe a guy named Mike Nolan deserves the honor.
(9) - Statistically, the Eagles are far from out. Without McNabb though, it's hard to say I have much faith left in the team though.
(14) - Toughest decision in football: Is Michael Vick right for the Falcons? I say yes, but the offensive system is completely in disarray.
(22) - The Dolphins aren't out of it yet, and if Joey Harrington continues to manage games, they'll be in the same position they were in last season.
(19) - After hopes of possibly becoming a wildcard, a 35-0 loss at home with quarterback injury problems will quickly deflate the mood.
(21) - The Rams have gone from exciting to...can anyone explain it? This potent offense has just...disappeared.
(23) - The Texans have definitely made progress from last season, but they couldn't close it out against the Bills.
(24) - The Browns played tough against their division rivals, but three points on offense won't get it done.
(28) - For a second there, I thought Lee Evans would have a shot at breaking the receiving record for a game.
(25) - Jason Campbell's first game was solid, but his numbers could fade once teams catch on to him.
(27) - They've split the first two of their 11 day span in which they play three games.
(30) - Vince Young has played nice, but the playing ability of Travis Henry has been pleasantly surprising.
(26) - When Brad Johnson's touchdown to interception ratio is this bad, they need to make a change.
(29) - Unless the Lions are a good football team, seeing them play on Thanksgiving isn't much fun.
(31) - Aaron Brooks actually played a fairly turnover free game against the Chiefs - until he had a shot to win the game.
(32) - When the Cardinals start beating come good opponents, I'll lift them from the cellar.
