The Chicago Bears have surged all the way up to the No. 2 spot in this week's power rankings, after an impressive effort against the Seattle Seahawks. It wasn't enough to surpass our No. 1 team though, despite the Indianapolis Colts having to rally late to defeat the New York Jets. Another team saw their stock raise big time, after a stunning come-from-behind win over the San Diego Chargers. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins struggles on offense finally took its toll, dropping them ten spots in just one week. These rankings were made on October 8th, 2006, right before Week 5. These rankings take into account the momentum teams had from last week, as well as their expectations heading into the season.

Rank Team Comment
(1) - Manning's big play ability is fun to watch, but there has to be some concern in letting a team like the Jets hang around that long.
(9) - The Bears have taken control over the NFC with a big win over the defending NFC champions. Rex Grossman is better than anyone could have imagined.
(5) - The Patriots never lose two games in a row, and a performance like that quickly makes you forget about their lackluster effort against the Broncos.
(2) - A rare off day for the Bengals offense almost makes you believe Carson Palmer is human.
(13) - The Ravens, not the Steelers or the Bengals, are suddenly the class of the AFC North. I was completely wrong about this team, thinking they'd finish last.
(4) - The Chargers were upset at the last second by the Ravens, something that brought back memories of their shocking losses suffered last year.
(3) - The Seahawks may be in more trouble than they thought without Alexander. The Bears annihilated them in every aspect of the game.
(7) - After a bye, the Broncos look to improve on the success of Jake Plummer from Week 3 against the Patriots.
(6) - After a hot start, the Jaguars have lost two in a row to quickly put doubt in any divisional title hope.
(11) - Terrell Owens can definitely play with an injury, but will he show up against the Eagles this week?
(8) - It's do or die time for the Steelers, who could find themselves in the cellar of the AFC North after this week.
(10) - The Giants offense has had two weeks to get their act together, and it's about time they finally make a statement.
(12) - The Panthers pulled out a nice win over the Saints last week, but you get the feeling they're not scoring as often as they should be.
(14) - Marques Colston could be rookie of the year instead of Reggie Bush.
(15) - Things didn't start well against the Cardinals, but the running game took over and restored their dominating presence.
(18) - The Eagles are battling injuries, and a win over the Cowboys would be enormous.
(19) - The offense has kicked into another gear with Clinton Portis back in the action.
(20) - The Rams can win by defense, or by a shootout: pick your poison.
(22) - That's the Kansas City Chiefs we expected to see this season. The defense doesn't make big plays necessarily, but they prevent points from being put on the board.
(16) - They've stayed in games, but unfortunately, they've been a couple of points shy lately.
(21) - Chad Pennington is staying competitive, and it's scary to think what they could do with a good running back system.
(24) - The Bills are playing better on both sides of the ball than anyone thought, and are the type of team that could squeak into the playoff race.
(25) - The Browns picked up their first win of the season, but it took some late heroics against the lowly Raiders.
(23) - It's good news that Matt Leinart is under center now, but with youth usually comes struggle at first.
(26) - The Packers are too inconsistent, but they're fun to watch when facing a poor defense.
(31) - David Carr is playing solid football, and it's hard to argue this team needs a new quarterback despite their losing record over the years.
(17) - I've finally given up on the Dolphins. If Culpepper couldn't even do anything against Houston's defense, then he's not doing anything against a half good defense.
(27) - The 49ers were blown out of the water last week, but they typically rebound well from those phases in their youth stage.
(29) - Even a shootout couldn't go Mike Martz' way against his former team.
(28) - They'll have to rely on a rookie quarterback now, which could but them down with the Raiders soon, the same teams that met in the Super Bowl a few years back.
(30) - Vince Young is getting some playing time, but the defense doesn't look like it'll be stopping people anytime soon.
(32) - Even a Raiders fan doesn't have a legitimate excuse to dispute this ranking.
