In our Week 8 Power Rankings, several teams suffered setbacks, including several high-powered teams from the NFC. Despite playing so well, the Philadelphia Eagles have dropped from the top ten due to three crushing losses. And, the Seattle Seahawks took a major hit after losing Matt Hasselbeck on top of Shaun Alexander. In the AFC, things are looking brighter for teams like the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos, but don't forget about the New York Jets, who are quickly on the rise. These rankings were made on October 29th, 2006, right before Week 8. These rankings take into account the momentum teams had from last week, as well as their expectations heading into the season.

Rank Team Comment
(1) - Coming off of a bye week, they'll have their hands full with the Denver Broncos defense.
(2) - Also coming off of a bye week, they won't have their hands full with the 49ers young team.
(3) - When you take a look at the way that New England is winning their games, they may just be the best team in the NFL.
(4) - Denver's defense has carried them all season, but the offense will need to do something if they want to contend with the Colts.
(6) - Carson Palmer gutted a tough win out for the Bengals, despite all of their injuries/missing players.
(5) - The Chargers put up a fight, but winning at Arrowhead is something that's difficult to accomplish.
(9) - If the Saints win this week, they may very well move up to the top five, even if the higher teams win as well.
(10) - Tiki Barber's retirement isn't important right now: the fact that the Giants are rolling is.
(11) - The Panthers finally lost with Steve Smith. Why did they move up two spots? Because other teams dropped big time.
(12) - The tough losses are adding up, and the Giants are taking the advantage in the division quickly.
(7) - Is the Jaguars defense good? One week they dominate the Jets, the next week they can't stop the Texans.
(8) - The Seahawks' ranking isn't a result of production, but the injuries of Hasselbeck and Alexander.
(13) - Tony Romo is the leader of the Cowboys now, and only time will tell whether it was the right move.
(17) - The entire game against the Steelers was exciting and bizarre, but the fact is, they picked up the win.
(14) - The Ravens have had the bye week to get their acts together offensively after a strong start and recent downfall.
(15) - The Rams have a golden opportunity to take advantage of the NFC West if Seattle struggles without their weapons.
(19) - The Vikings are the quiet team in the NFC, just as they were at the end of last year.
(16) - The Steelers offense is clearly in sync again with Roethlisberger, but they only have two wins.
(20) - The Chiefs have been fortunate to do what they've done with their quarterback situation.
(18) - The Jets continue to take advantage of their easy schedule.
(21) - Washington's team is almost too confusing to rank. It's almost as if they pick which weeks they'd like to show up.
(25) - The Packers offense is rolling when Ahman Green is in the game.
(27) - Two straight wins has turned the Buccaneers from a disaster into an underdog threat.
(28) - The Texans win against Jacksonville came out of left field. It'll be interesting to see what they do next.
(22) - After a nice start to the year, the Bills have quickly faded to their former state.
(23) - Firing Maurice Carthon was the right move, but why didn't they do it during their bye week?
(26) - Frank Gore could be a Pro Bowl candidate if he keeps up the type of season he's having.
(30) - The Lions offense is potent with Roy Williams, but their defense can't stop many teams.
(31) - It's starting to get fun to watch the Titans, especially if Travis Henry continues his surprise stretch.
(29) - We're honestly considering that the Dolphins would've been better off keeping Gus Frerotte.
(32) - The Raiders have had the "embarrassment of the league" title taken away from them by the Cardinals.
(24) - If you're already bad and you lose to the worst, then that pretty much means you are the worst.
