The San Francisco 49ers have traded wide receiver Brandon Lloyd to the Washington Redskins. In return, the 49ers will receiver the Redskins' third-round pick in the upcoming draft as well as their fourth-round pick in the 2007 draft.
Lloyd, who was drafted by the 49ers in the third round three years ago, was known for his outstanding catches on the highlight reel this past season. Llyod caught 48 passes for 733 yards and five touchdowns, but he did not get along with head coach Mike Nolan.
It is believed that Lloyd wanted out of San Francisco, but Nolan and the 49ers are denying that fact.
"He's got some of the best hands you'll see, and he does make plays," Nolan said. "We did this to make our team better. ... If he didn't (want to return to San Francisco), he never voiced it to me."
The knock on Lloyd was that he often dropped a lot of passes for every great catch that he made. He also had numerous conflicts with his teammates in the past. In Washington, Llyod will start along with Santana Moss, making what could be an outstanding combination.
The 49ers will try to replace Lloyd via free agency, although the market is quickly shrinking.
