The Cleveland Browns have traded wide receiver Andre' Davis to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 5th round draft pick. Davis was given permission to seek a trade after the Browns' coaching staff moved receivers Braylon Edwards, Antonio Bryant, and Dennis Northcutt ahead of him on the depth chart.
Davis' contract was up after this season with the Browns, and the team had no plans to re-sign him. With the potential he's shown in the past, the team felt it was better to get something in return for him while he still has some value.
With New England, Davis will have a lot of competition. WRs Deion Branch and David Givens will start for the team. Troy Brown, Bethel Johnson, Tim Dwight, David Terrell, and several other receivers are fighting for playing time.
Davis was a second round draft pick a few years ago.
