Nothing could stop the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of last season, and they entire team and fan base have been riding on cloud nine as of late, until Monday. Roethlisberger broke his nose and jaw in a motorcycle accident and immediately underwent surgery when he arrived at the hospital.

As of Monday afternoon, Roethlisberger was in serious but stable condition according to Dr. Larry Jones, the chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital. Roethlisberger's agent, Leigh Steinberg, said it is not known if other injuries were sustained in the accident.

"He was talking to me before he left for the operating room," Jones said. "He's coherent. He's making sense. He knows what happened. He knows where he is. From that standpoint, he's very stable."

Steelers team president Art Rooney said that the team was encouraged by the early results from the medical center. He said that everyone is praying for Ben to make a full recovery.

Roethlisberger was riding his motorcycle without a helmet, which has been often criticized in the past. The accident happened at around 11:30 a.m. It is believed that Roethlisberger had a green light and was heading straight at an intersection. When Ben reached the intersection, a car that was turning left didn't see Ben and they collided. Roethlisberger flipped over his handlebars and his head smacked into the windshield before he landed on the sidewalk below. There were only two or three witnesses at the scene.

Several teammates as well as many fans gathered at the hospital, with prayers in their mind for Roethlisberger. We here at Pro Football Critics also with Ben the best and hope that he has a safe, speedy recovery.
