The Buffalo Bills signed first-round defensive tackle John McCargo to a five-year deal. McCargo was the later of two first-round draft picks by the Bills, and the move was considered questionable by many. The Bills traded up to get McCargo, but many people projected that he would not be selected until the second round.
The signing occured after the first day of the Bills training camp. McCargo was the 26th overall pick in the draft, coming out of North Carolina State. McCargo will start the season as a backup to Larry Tripplet in all liklihood. Tripplett was signed as a free-agent from the Indianapolis Colts in the offseason.
At 6-foot-2 and 301 pounds, McCargo hopes to be a big part of the Bills defense later in the season.
