The Philadelphia Eagles signed starting safety Brian Dawkins to a two-year contract extension on Sunday, just before the Hall of Fame game. Dawkins is now signed through the 2008 season, and was thrilled with the deal.
"It's nice to get this out of the way and it's time to get the season going," said Dawkins, before the game. "I'm looking forward to being here another two years. It's a good thing for me, absolutely, and for the organization."
Dawkins was entering the final year of his contract. Since joining the Eagles in 1996, Dawkins has compiled 28 interceptions and has been a key part of their defense. He has dealt with injuries in his career, and has been able to bounce back.
"When the time is right and the Hall of Fame knocks on Brian's door, he will be recognized as one of those special players," said Eagles president Joe Banner. "He is as top quality a player as we've had since we started with this organization. He's a top-quality guy, he's loyal to the Eagles, he stands for everything we believe in. He has a great work ethic, he's a winner, he works in the community. Brian represents the Eagles perfectly."
PFC Analysis: This was a good move by the Eagles organization. Dawkins has proved himself throughout his career, and will contribute to their defense just as well as he has in the past.
