The Denver Broncos signed wide receiver
Brandon Stokley to a one-year deal on Tuesday, officially ending his reign with the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts released Stokley on March 2nd after another injury-filled season. He only played in four games this past season, catching eight passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. Ankle and knee injuries affected him early on in the season, while a ruptured Achilles' tendon in early December officially ended his season.
Stokley should be ready to perform by training camp, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein. He says that Stokley is looking forward to the Broncos offensive system.
"It's a great opportunity," Bartelstein said. "He played for a great offense in Indy, and Shanahan is a great offensive mind. It's a great fit."
Stokley has been the Colts slot receiver for the past several seasons. His best year came in 2004, when quarterback
Peyton Manning broke the touchdown record. Stokley caught 68 passes for 1,077 yards and 10 touchdowns that year. Throughout his career, he has 199 catches for 2,829 yards and 22 touchdowns.
In Denver, Stokley is expected to serve as the third or fourth receiver.
Javon Walker and
Brandon Marshall will likely be the starting receivers.
The Broncos also signed former Browns defensive lineman
Alvin McKinley.
