The Cleveland Browns have signed offensive tackle L.J. Shelton to a one-year contract. The move was likely made in case the teams starter, Ross Verba, continues to hold out.
Shelton has played in 77 of 82 games with the Cardinals over the past six seasons, showing that he hasn't been injury prone. He would be able to step right in if Verba would end up getting released.
Earlier in the offseason, many people thought that Shelton may be traded to the Buffalo Bills for Travis Henry, but the deal never went through.
Verba may indeed be released by the Browns soon after recent remarks he made to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
"Now they have a left tackle and hopefully they'll cut me," Verba said. "Please cut me now!"
Verba was told by Butch Davis last year that he would get a better contract. Davis isn't hear anymore, but Verba felt he should still be owed some more money.
