Chris Simms' season is officially over, and the same could be said about his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers placed Simms on the injured reserve Friday to activate backup quarterback Luke McCown from the physically-unable-to-perform list. Simms has been out since September 24th after having his spleen removed following a game against the Carolina Panthers. There was still a chance that Simms could have returned in December, but at that point, the Buccaneers' season would basically be over already.

The Buccaneers probably will choose to let Simms go after this season and head in another direction, possibly current quarterback Bruce Gradkowski.

McCown partially tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in June and was placed on the PUP during raining camp. McCown was originally a draft pick by the Cleveland Browns two years ago. He made four starts for the Browns, throwing four touchdowns and seven interceptions. At the moment, Tim Rattay is the primary backup to Gradkowski, but that could change to McCown in the future. Luke is the brother of quarterback Josh McCown, who serves as a backup quarterback for the Detroit Lions.
