The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have aqcquired QB Tim Rattay from the San Francisco 49ers for an undisclosed draft pick. Rattay just lost his starting quarterback job a few weeks ago to rookie QB Alex Smith.

Rattay was needed after QB Brian Griese went down for the Buccaneers. Griese injured his knee and will be out for awhile.

In 32 career games, Rattay has thrown for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He has not received a lot of attention by playing for a poor 49ers team.

Rattay will likely back up Chris Simms, who came in relief of Griese. The Buccaneers are 5-1, and needed a reliable backup other than Luke McCown, who is only in his second year.
