The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released quarterback Brian Griese, who led the team to a 5-1 start this past season. After their outstanding start, Griese injured his left knee and had surgery. The young Chris Simms took over and did a manageable job. Obviously, his performances were good enough to not need a solid backup anymore. The team will save $8 million by releasing Griese in the cap.

Last year, Simms threw for 2,035 yards and ten touchdowns. Griese has done well throughout his career, but he has never gone through a full season without missing a game to injury. Griese has played for Denver, Miami, and Tampa Bay during his eight-year career.
