The Buffalo Bills have released three of their key players from the past few years in order to save some salary cap room. The Bills released safety Lawyer Milloy, tight end Mark Campbell, and defensive tackle Sam Adams. They have not yet released wide receiver Eric Moulds.
"It's that time of the year where all teams are involved in making some, to a degree, painful decisions," said Bills general manager Marv Levy.
All three of the players that were released were starters for the Bills. Campbell didn't catch a lot of passes since the tight end was utilized in the passing game often, but Milloy and Adams played often.
"The style of offense and defense we will be running were factored in," said Levy, on the reason for the releases. "We know you can't have everybody on your team that you'd like to have."
Adams, a 12-year veteran, was entering the final year of his contract. Milloy, who signed with the Bills in 2003 after the New England Patriots cut him out of no where, was the Bills second-leading tackler this past season.
