The Arizona Cardinals may finally have the running game they've been longing for. The Cardinals signed Pro Bowl running back Edgerrin James to a four-year, $30 million deal. James has played for the Indianapolis Colts for several years and has done very well. James will enter a system where the running game has been non-existant, however, the passing game has been solid.
"OK it's a risk. But hey, I'm a poker player. You can take it to the river," James said. "I'm not scared to take a chance. I'm not scared to go out there on a limb and do something different."
The Colts realized that James would probably go elsewhere, and chose not to pursue him heavily compared to other teammates. The Cardinals hopes that James can turn around their horrid running game.
"You look at his ability to go out and run the football," said Cardinals head coach Dennis Green, "and that's an element we just have to have. We are extremely excited. We had a great weekend."
The Cardinals selected JJ Arrington in the first round of this past year's draft, but he never got going in the team's system. James realizes that he is leaving the dangerous offense of Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne. However, he feels he is joining a dangerous one in the making.
"It's a nice situation. All they really need was a back," James said. "They've got an MVP quarterback (Kurt Warner), they've got two Pro Bowl receivers (Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald)."
Arrington will be the backup to James next season.
