The San Diego Chargers promoted running backs coach Clarence Shelmon to their offensive coordinator position on Friday, staying within the organization to replace former coordinator Cam Cameron. Cameron left to be the Miami Dolphins head coach earlier in the week.
Terms of Shelmon's deal were not immediately available. He has been the Chargers running backs coach for the past five seasons, and has also coached with the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, and Los Angeles Rams in the past. The Chargers hope that Shelmon can provide a similar offensive approach that Cameron did, seeing as it worked so well this season in leading the team to a 14-2 record and an amazing season for LaDainian Tomlinson.
