The San Diego Chargers organization told everyone a few weeks ago that they wanted to re-sign Drew Brees, and their efforts have already begun. The team would like to sign him to a long-term deal before the deadline for franchise tag designations on February 23rd.

It is believed that if the Chargers can't reach a deal with Brees before that date, they would slap the franchise tag on him. He would make about $9.7 million next year with a franchise tag. If he is not given the tag or a contract, he will become an unrestricted free agent.
