The San Diego Chargers have traded cornerback Sammy Davis to the San Francisco 49ers for wide receiver Rashaun Woods. Both of these players are former first-round draft picks, but have been disappointing since entering the league.
Woods was taken by the 49ers with the 31st overall pick in the 2004 draft. He was very impressive in college, but couldn't even make a name for himself on the 49ers' weak receiving group. As a rookie, he caught seven passes for 160 yards. Woods was placed on the injured reserve list last season with a minor thumb injury.
Davis was the 30th overall pick in the 2003 draft by the Chargers. He started all 16 games in 2003, but then lost his job at the start of 2004. Last season, Davis competed with Drayton Florence for a starting job, and lost. In 44 career games with the Chargers, Davis has three interceptions.
Both teams hope that the new environments can spark both players.
