With the thirteenth pick in the NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected defensive end/linebacker Kamerion Wimbley of Florida State. The Cleveland Browns traded their pick with the Ravens in order to gain a sixth-round pick. The Browns have been interested in Ngata, Brodrick Bunkley, and Wimbley the past few weeks. They probably led the Ravens to believe they wanted Ngata, but planned on selecting Wimbley, regardless.
Scouting Information on Wimbley: Kamerion Wimbley played defensive end at Florida State, but is considered by many as a player who can also play at linebacker. Wimbley did not become a starter until his senior season, however he always made contributions as a backup in the years before. He recorded 7.5 sacks last year despite a knee injury.
Wimbley didn't start a whole lot of games, which raises some question about his durability as a starter. On top of that, he sprained his knee during his senior season. As a defensive end, Wimbley comes off the edge so quick, making it very difficult for offensive tackles to contain him. He gets into the backfield very quickly. The only issue about Wimbley as a defensive end is his size, which is why he can be considered an outside linebacker heading into the draft to make up for his size. If there is an offensive tackle that has a massive figure, they can usually stuff Wimbley without much trouble. If he converts to linebacker, he won't have to worry about his size and can focus on his strength, which is speed. Wimbley could be alternated as a defensive end and a linebacker.
