The Washington Redskins needed to string together several wins to keep their season alive, but a blow they suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles didn't help them in the least. Redskins' starting running back Clinton Portis broke his hand during the first half of the game after carrying the ball six times for 25 yards. He left late in the first quarter and was not able to return to the game.
"I haven't talked to him yet, but it's something that might have to have some screws," said Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs.
The Redskins ended up losing the game 27-3, as the team's offensive woes continued. Ladell Betts, the running back who replaced Portis, didn't play too bad during his time in the game. He carried the ball 20 times for 83 yards.
Washington now has a 3-6 record, and could be four games out of first place by the end of the day. The Redskins are not completely out of the playoff race yet due to the vast amount of wildcard teams looming near a .500 record, but the loss of Portis can't help their offense by any means. It's not known yet how much time Portis will miss.
