San Francisco 49ers kicker Joe Nedney will probably not play this week due to strained left groin. He is listed as doubtful and did not practice Thursday.
"This is something he's had all season long," said 49ers head coach Mike Nolan. "He's just been taking care of it. For some reason, it just flared up a little bit more."
A prime candidate to replace Nedney this week is kicker Jose Cortez, who has already played for two different teams this year. Cortez started his season with the Dallas Cowboys, then moved to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was signed both times due to injury, and was released due to ineffectiveness for Dallas and the return of David Akers for the Eagles.
Cortez has played for the 49ers in the past.
