After several decent practices and one preseason appearance, the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to cut ties with veteran quarterback Tim Couch on Saturday. Couch, who is attempting to return to the NFL for the first time since 2004, was competing for the Jaguars' third-string quarterback role while Quinn Gray was sidelined with an injury. Couch wanted to prove that he had recovered from two shoulder operations.
Last week, Couch was 2-of-4 for 11 yards passing and was sacked twice. Couch had missed practice this week with a sore back, hindering his chances at making more of an impression. At this time, there is no word on whether or not Couch will be given a look somewhere else.
The team also placed offensive linebacker Stockar McDougle on the injured reserve and signed defensive linemen Seth Payne and Tyler King. Payne had played for the Jaguars from 1997-2001, and has spent the past five seasons with the Houston Texans. King has spent his career on several practice squads.
