Courtney Brown hoped that he would stay healthy in Denver, unlike his days in Cleveland. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Brown underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, and will not play in the preseason. Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan hopes to have Brown back just in time for the regular season opener on September 10th against the St. Louis Rams.
"We have four weeks, and I feel pretty good that he should be able to come back if there are no setbacks," Shanahan said. "We will keep our fingers crossed."
Brown had knee injuries during three of his four seasons with the Browns. With the Broncos, he dislocated his left elbow last year, but made it back for the season and recorded 38 tackles with two sacks in 14 games. Shanahan belies if all goes well in Brown's recovery though, he should be fine. That's easier said than done with Brown's history.
"Courtney has been here through all the (offseason training) days, and it is not like he missed camp. He had three weeks of good repetition," Shanahan said. "Obviously, with his experience, it makes us feel pretty good. (But) I do want him to get back into football shape."
