The Minnesota Vikings have finally traded disgruntled quarterback Daunte Culpepper to the Miami Dolphins. In exchange, it is believed that the Vikings will receive a second-round pick in this year's draft.
The move leaves the Vikings with Brad Johnson as their starting quarterback for the time being. Culpepper had knee injuries last year that prevented him from finishing the season with the Vikings. However, even when he was healthy, Culpepper struggled without having receiver Randy Moss.
Last year, Culpepper threw six touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions in seven games. The trade did not come as a surprise, since both sides were rumored to be going in opposite directions for months. Culpepper believes it is the best decision for both sides.
"However, because of the fundamental differences I have with management regarding the approach to my personal and professional life, I think it is the best business decision for both parties to go our separate ways," said Culpepper.
The Dolphins and Raiders were the teams most interested in Culpepper. Had the Raiders acquired him, he would have been paired with Moss once again. Now, he'll have to get used to Chris Chambers in Miami.
The Dolphins had some interest in free-agent quarterback Drew Brees, but they chose Culpepper instead. Right after Culpepper was brought in, the team released quarterback Gus Frerotte, who started about half the season last year. Frerotte was Culpepper's backup in Minnesota for several years before moving to the Dolphins last year.
