After playing so good defensively all season, the Denver Broncos may have suffered their first casualty. Broncos' starting CB Darrent Williams could miss up to four weeks after hurting his right groin on the opening kickoff this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Williams tackled Ravens' returner B.J. Sams after an 87-yard return, but didn't feel too good after that.
Williams, a rookie picked in the second round of the draft, became a starter back in Week 3 and has been solid. If Williams misses four weeks though, he will not return until the second round of the playoffs. Ironically, that could be Denver's first playoff game if they are able to clinch the second seed in the AFC.
Of all the positions, injuries at cornerback always seem to plague the Broncos.
"It's a high-risk position," said Broncos' defensive coordinator Larry Coyer. "It's the nature of their body style. Those guys get injured at a high rate. We have been very unfortunate."
Williams has two interceptions this season along with 49 tackles and one sack. One of his picks went for a touchdown. Domonique Foxworth, another rookie cornerback, may start in place of Williams. The other starter will be Champ Bailey, of course.
"The title of starter is a much bigger deal to others," Foxworth said. "To be honest, I have played a lot of plays. I have been in a lot more plays lately."
