It was speculated that Dave Wannstedt would be fired due to the Dolphins poor record and play this season. Instead, he resigned this week after the recent loss to the Cardinals. Even if the team had won, it was time for Wannstedt to go, after not leading his team to the playoffs for the past few seasons.

The Dolphins defensive coordinator Jim Bates was promoted to interim coach for the rest of the 2005 season. The Dolphins will be looking for a new coach next season.
