Jack Del Rio made it clear: David Garrard will be his starting quarterback this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans after leading the team to a 13-6 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles this past week. However, that doesn't mean that Byron Leftwich is no longer the team's starter. Del Rio claims that if Leftwich were healthy, he would get the start.

That seems understandable - except for the fact that Leftwich believes he is healthy enough to play.

"All I know is that I was told I won't be the starter on Sunday," Leftwich said. "So now is the time to get the ankle healthy. But me personally, I'd be lying to you if I said I couldn't start. I feel I could go out there and play well, but we'll see."

"I went out there and moved around pretty good," said Leftwich. "It didn't feel 100 percent, but believe me, it's ready to roll. It's a little sore. I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Right now, it's just frustrating because I'm missing an opportunity to play when I feel as if I can play."

Although Leftwich has not been a bad quarterback with the Jaguars, there have always been questions about his mobility. That's not the case for Garrard, who is very mobile and can make a play using his feet. Garrard was surprised somewhat by the decision as well.

"It's hard for me to say anything because no one is being definitive on anything -- if it's Byron's health, it's performance or whatever," Garrard said. "I can't give you any explanation on why all of this is occurring. Until someone with greater power than me can tell you, I can only say I'm not sure."

Leftwich originally hurt his left ankle against the Washington Redskins on October 1st. The injury was aggravated two weeks later, but he still played against the Houston Texans, a game the Texans lost 27-7. Last week, Garrard was 10-of-17 for 87 yards without any interceptions or touchdowns. He ran the ball eight times for 36 yards. Garrard was originally a fourth-round draft pick in the 2002 draft. He has started nine games during his five-year stay with the team.
