The Seattle Seahawks have finally activated wide receiver Deion Branch, meaning he will be on the team's 53-man roster this Sunday against the New York Giants. The Seahawks released defensive lineman Chris Cooper to make room for Branch. Branch had a two-week roster exemption for the Seahawks after coming over via a trade from the New England Patriots.
Seahawks' head coach Mike Holmgren stated that Branch would play this week, but probably would not start. Nate Burleson will still be in the slot, while Bobby Engram will start opposite of Darrell Jackson. Due to injuries to tight ends Jerramy Stevens and Itula Mili though, the Seahawks will probably run more formations with multiple receivers.
"As I've said before, they all want touches. It's important to them. I'm certainly not going to tell them that you're going to play this amount," Holmgren said. "We're going to substitute guys. We're going to use different groupings, and if you're in there you're in there."
Fantasy Update: It's too risky to play Branch still. Wait until next week before possibly giving him a shot.
