Although x-rays were negative on Charlie Frye's wrist, it is believed that Derek Anderson will make his first career start this Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Frye has not been ruled out yet, but his wrist is still in a lot of pain. Doctors feared that he may have sustained tiny fractures in his wrist that x-rays would not have picked up.
If Frye played Thursday, he may only end up making his wrist hurt for the rest of the season with the type of pass rush the Steelers bring. Anderson entered his first "true" game after Frye left against the Kansas City Chiefs and pulled off one of the best comebacks and victories Cleveland has had since returning to the league. Down 28-14 in the fourth quarter, Anderson threw two touchdowns to veteran tight end Steve Heiden. In overtime, Anderson had a big run for 33 yards, which was the team's longest run of the season. It is worth pointing out though that Anderson is anything but fast.
The Browns hope that Anderson does not end up like another "Ryan Fitzpatrick". The Steelers bring more blitzes than a lot of teams in the league do, and are still technically alive in the playoff race, although their chances are very slim.
