Things can't get any worse for the New Orleans Saints right now. First they lose all of their "true" home games. Secondly, they are still playing like the "inconsistent high-school team" from years past, after a promising ending to last year. Now - feature running back Deuce McAllister will miss the rest of the season to a torn ACL.
McAllister is a huge weapon on the Saints offense. McAllister is a two-time Pro Bowler, but has scuffled a little since fullback Terrelle Smith joined the Cleveland Browns last year.
An MRI on Monday revealed the torn ACL. It is not officially confirmed is McAllister will undergo season-ending surgery, but it seems likely at this point.
McAllister had rushed for 335 yards and three touchdowns this year. He just signed a seven-year contract extension in June.
The Saints backup running backs are Antowain Smith and Aaron Stecker. Smith finished the Packers game with 36 yards on 12 carries, but he is not a home-run hitter. Stecker showed some explosiveness last year when McAllister went down for a limited time.
The Saints may consider acquiring a running back before the trade deadline.
