The Miami Dolphins signed wide receiver Marcus Vick to their practice squad on Sunday, showing that they have not given up on the former college quarterback and brother of Michael Vick. Dolphins head coach Nick Saban was pleased that another team did not claim Vick off waivers.
"Sometimes you've got to take a little risk, and we're happy it ended up like it ended up," Saban said, regarding Vick.
Although Vick was a quarterback at Virginia Tech in college, he knew that the chances of him playing that position in the NFL were slim. The Dolphins utilized Vick as a receiver and kick returner, where he did fairly well during training camp and the preseason.
The Dolphins also signed running back Lee Suggs to their 53-man roster, picking him up off waivers from the Cleveland Browns. The Browns were rumored to trade Suggs to the Dolphins a few weeks ago after the New York Jets failed Suggs with his physical, but the Dolphins obviously decided to wait until he was cut. The Dolphins needed a backup running back after learning that Sammy Morris would be suspended for the first four games of the regular season.
There is a chance that Suggs will be in action as the backup running back this Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns waived Suggs due to his troubled injury history.
