For now, it appears that Drew Bledsoe's career is over. The 14-year veteran quarterback retired on Wednesday after making two trips to the Super Bowl during his career. Bledsoe came into the league in 1993 as the first overall pick by the New England Patriots. During his career, he played with the Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and the Dallas Cowboys. Bledsoe was a starting quarterback throughout most of his years, but was benched part way through last season by Bill Parcells in favor of young quarterback Tony Romo. Bledsoe retired as a free agent, as no teams showed enough of an interest in him as a starting quarterback. During his career, Bledsoe threw for 44,611 yards and 251 touchdowns.

"I feel so fortunate, so honored, to have played this game that I love for so long, with so many great players, and in front of so many wonderful fans," Bledsoe said. "I fulfilled a childhood dream the first time I stepped on an NFL field, and the league did not let me down one time. I retire with a smile on my face, in good health, and ready to spend autumns at my kids' games instead of my own. I'm excited to start the next chapter of my life."

During the latter parts of his career, Bledsoe's numbers began to dwindle, as he began throwing around the same amount of interceptions as he would touchdowns. There's still a chance that Bledsoe could be lured out of retirement during the season if a team has a quarterback go down due to injury and needs a replacement.
