Terrell Owens and Jeff Garcia were almost on the same roster once again. The Eagles signed veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia to a contract just days after they released Owens. With McNabb's injury problems last year, the Eagles needed a reliable quarterback behind him.

"Had I signed a day or two ago, we could've been teammates," Garcia said regarding Owens. "He's moved on and I've stepped into a place where he played. I don't have a problem with the guy. He's a tremendous player on the field. I've witnessed that. He's a difference-maker. If I were to have an opportunity to be a teammate of his again, I wouldn't back down from the situation."

Garcia has not been able to settle in with a team smoothly after being released by the San Francisco 49ers. Garcia had one average year with the Cleveland Browns and one with the Detroit Lions last year. Garcia threw for 937 yards, three touchdowns, and six interceptions for them last year.

Garcia will take the place of Mike McMahon and Koy Detmer, who were McNabb's backups last season. Eagles head coach Andy Reid knows that McNabb is a smart enough player for their system though.

"He's a very smart player and is very familiar with our offensive system," said Reid. "He'll be a great back-up to Donovan."

The Eagles also signed receiver Jabar Gaffney to a one-year deal. Last year, Gaffney caught for 492 yards and two touchdowns with the Houston Texans.

"Jabar has good hands and is a precise route runner," Reid said. "He has the ability to line up in the slot. We're excited to add him to the mix at the wide receiver position."

With Owens leaving, Gaffney should see quite a bit of time at the receiving position.
