A few days after releasing Corey Simon, the Eagles continued with their significant roster moves by releasing defensive end Hugh Douglas, fullback Jon Ritchie, and punter Sean Landeta. The team then signed wide receiver Darnerien McCants to a one-year contract after being released by the Redskins a few days ago.
Douglas was a three time Pro Bowler for the Eagles a few years ago before leaving to Jacksonville. Last year, he returned to the Eagles after being cut by the Jaguars.
Ritchie was injured most of last season, leaving Josh Perry as the team's only fullback.
Landeta being cut was not a surprise. He was signed a month ago as insurance in case Dirk Johnson did not recover from injury as planned.
In four seasons with the Redskins, McCants had 53 catches for 687 yards and eight touchdowns. He will join the Eagles thin makeshift receiving group after losing Todd Pinkston to injury.
