Eric Moulds is making another statement: he wants to explore other options. Moulds has asked the team to either trade him or release him, since he believes that the team will not keep him in the long run.

"The Bills have put us in a position where we're at Option Z, and Option Z is to ask to be released," said Moulds' personal adviser, Greg Johnson, to The Associated Press. "It's a sad day. And we wish things could've worked out, but it's just not working out."

Moulds has played for the Bills for ten years and currently has two years remaining on his contract. He is scheduled to make a lot of money, and the Bills have already asked him to restructure his contract. Moulds has refused the Bills' proposals twice.

"We feel like we're absolutely going nowhere," said Johnson. "We respectfully disagree with the Buffalo Bills."

The Bills are stating that they would still like Moulds to remain a part of their team. If the team does not release or trade him, Moulds may "holdout" of minicamp in spring. One sign that the Bills may be willing to dismiss Moulds is the fact that they signed free-agent receiver Andre' Davis to a four-year deal.

"I think Eric is due that respect by the Buffalo Bills," Johnson said. "We need to find out what his fair market value is and we're going to determine that by finding what other teams out there are willing to pay him. ... We'll never determine that if we just continue to go back and forth with the Buffalo Bills."

Last year, Moulds had 81 catches for 816 yards. He did very well whenever veteran quarterback Kelly Holcomb played, but seemed invisible whenever the young J.P. Losman quarterbacked.

Moulds was a first-round pick way back in the 1996 draft and has had a successful career with Buffalo.
