The Cleveland Browns have made one of the biggest signings in free agency for the second year in a row, taking top offensive lineman Eric Steinbach off of the market by signing him to a seven-year deal worth $49 million. The deal will include $17 million in guaranteed money. Last year, the Browns made the biggest signing in free agency by locking up center LeCharles Bentley to a six-year deal. Unfortunately for the Browns, Bentley suffered a season-ending and career-threatening injury on the first play of training camp.
The Browns were pitiful in their running game last season due to their issues at offensive line. The Browns will have to decide whether they want to use Steinbach at the guard position, or at tackle. Steinbach has played guard for the Bengals since being drafted in the second round in 2003. That decision may come after they find out more about the status of Ryan Tucker, or whether or not they select Joe Thomas with the third overall pick in the draft.
