Although the Atlanta Falcons are favored to win against the Cleveland Browns this week, they could be in big trouble. Their pass defense is ranked 31st in the NFL, and the injuries to their secondary continue to grow. Falcons starting cornerback Jason Webster tore his groin muscle in practice on Wednesday and is expected to miss at least a month of action.
"He got an MRI last night and it showed up," said Falcons head coach Jim Mora on Thursday. "Right now we are struggling at one spot, the secondary. Maybe we can get some guys to rally and move on."
The Falcons will have to rely on rookie cornerback Jimmy Williams in all likelihood to replace Webster. Unfortunately, William rolled his ankle in practice on Thursday and had to hobble off the field. The Falcons' other starting cornerback, DeAngelo Hall, is hurt with a strained hamstring. Still, Hall should be able to play this Sunday.
"We just have to move on," said Williams. "I have no doubt that I'll be back to help my teammates. Right now, we're just going through a tough stretch, but we'll be all right."
The Falcons have already lost cornerback Kevin Mathis for the season, and will have to hope that the Browns' offensive woes continue to this week if they want to survive.
