The New York Giants have released veteran linebacker Barrett Green after he failed to live up to expectations during his two-year stay with the team. Green was originally signed to help guide the rebuilding process of the Giants linebacking corps, but it didn't turn out that way.
Green only played in 11 games as a Giant due to knee injuries. On top of that, he did not have the best relationship with head coach Tom Coughlin. Green is now a free agent, and the Giants will save about $1.1 million in salary by releasing him.
Green only played in one game last year, and ten the year before. He was with the Detroit Lions for four seasons prior to that. The Giants are expected to be heavily interested in finding a linebacker in this year's draft.
Several teams will be interested in Green, who is still good enough to be a starter in the league. However, the problem has been his injuries, which will certainly lower the amount of money that a team is willing to give him.
The Giants also released Jason Whittle, a veteran offensive lineman who played in 14 games last season.
