The New York Giants signed first-round draft choice
Aaron Ross to a five-year deal worth around $13 million on Thursday, allowing him to report to training camp Friday. Ross' contract includes $8 million guaranteed.
"From day one I wanted to be out there with the vets, with the rookies and the coaches, everybody," stated Ross. "In two weeks we have a preseason game and I didn't want to miss any time."
Although the Giants' secondary struggled last season, Ross is not a lock by any means to jump into the starting lineup. Ross is simply focusing on learning the system.
"I am not thinking about starting at all," said Ross. "I am just trying to learn the system. R.W. and Sam have been helping me a lot. Once I learn from them and get everything under me, whatever happens, happens."
The Giants also signed wide receiver
Steve Smith on Friday, a rookie selected in the second round. Smith is expected to have a chance at starting after veteran receiver
Amani Toomer had major knee surgery in the offseason and is still recovering.
