The New York Giants have signed quarterback Tim Hasselbeck off of waivers after he was released by the Washington Redskins last week.
"We're very fortunate that this younger quarterback became available just when we needed one," Giants' general manager Ernie Accorsi.
Hasselbeck has made five career starts. The Giants will have Eli Manning as their starter. Jim Miller, expected to be the backup, had hip surgery two weeks ago. Hasselbeck will compete with Jesse Palmer and Jared Lorenzen for the two backup spots.
